🗣️ Have your say on the future of councils in Essex! 🗣️

For the first time in over 50 years, local government in Greater Essex is set for major change – and residents are being asked to help shape what comes next.
Right now, Essex is made up of 15 councils. Under new proposals, that number could be cut to just five larger unitary authorities. This would bring big changes to who runs services like waste collection, planning, social care, education and transport.
These changes are part of a government requirement to simplify local government structures across England – and they’ll affect nearly 1.9 million people in Essex.
By 2028, the existing council system could be replaced by new authorities covering wider areas. Proposals are being developed now, and a final plan will be submitted to the government in September.
Whether you live in Brentwood, Chelmsford, Basildon or anywhere else in Essex – this affects your area.
The survey takes just 10–15 minutes to complete and is open to all Essex residents.
