FRYERNING BRIDGE REPAIRS UPDATE from National Highways
The repairs at Fryerning Bridge could not be completed within the time frame previously shared, because further damage to the bridge was found once work had started.
To complete the repairs safely, National Highways will need to return to site from Monday 23 March to Friday 27 March 2026 to work overnight between 9pm and 5am, on weeknights only, weather permitting.
A 24-hour lane closure that was previously planned for Saturday 14 March 2026 will now take place on Saturday 28 March 2026 instead.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, the A12 will be closed southbound between junctions 17 and M25 junction 28 as well as a total closure of Fryerning Bridge overnight and divert traffic as detailed below:
A12 southbound diversion route between junction 17 and M25 junction 28 – motorway traffic:
Leave the A12 at junction 17 (Howe Green Interchange) and join the A130.
Stay on the A130 and take the fast link exit to join the A1245.
Follow the A1245 and join the A127 (Southend Arterial Road).
Continue on the A127 through Nevendon junction to reach M25 junction 29 (Cranham Interchange).
At junction 29, take the third exit to join the M25.
Continue to M25 junction 28 (Brook Street Interchange), where you can rejoin the A12 southbound or access local roads.
Non-motorway traffic diversion route:
At the A127 / A128 (Tilbury Road) roundabout, take the third exit onto the A128.
Follow the A128 through Herongate and Ingrave.
Continue to the Ingrave Road / A1023 roundabout in Brentwood and take the first exit onto the A1023 (High Street).
Stay on the A1023 until you reach M25 junction 28 (Brook Street Interchange).
From here, you can rejoin the A12 southbound or access local roads.
Fryerning Bridge traffic diversion route:
If you need to cross Fryerning Bridge to reach Ingatestone, turn around and join Blackmore Road.
Follow Blackmore Road to the Blackmore Road / Mountnessing Road T-junction and take the first exit onto Mountnessing Road.
Continue along Mountnessing Road until it becomes Thoby Lane.
At the Thoby Lane / Roman Road (B1002) T-junction, turn left onto Road.
Continue on Roman Road to reach Ingatestone.
If you’re travelling from Ingatestone to Fryerning, please follow the above diversion route in reverse.
